engagement gift for ele

If you're a regular around here and you don't know Ele, then you're missing out because she is my kindred. Ironically, we've never met in person, but we've connected over the fact that we are in similar life situations. Like me and my husband, she lives apart from her significant other while they both pursue their dreams at different medical schools. I feel that I know better than anyone how hard it can be to make a relationship work over so many miles. There's a whole new set of rules. But you commit yourself anyway and you support your SO in their dreams while pursing your own. It's kind of a lot. So the fact that they have managed to keep their relationship alive and thriving with all the distance is a testament of their love. So Ele's recent engagement truly deserves to be celebrated. And I love to support love, so I couldn't resist mailing off a care package to the bride-to-be to say congratulations.

included these champagne gummies since I couldn't send the real thing through the mail ;)

For fun, I decided to theme this gift around the famous wedding saying that every bride needs:
Something Old
Something New
Something Borrowed
Something Blue

Something Old
Something Old represents continuity in the relationship. At my own wedding, we had wishing trees and encouraged each of our guests to send us a wish of good-tidings for the future. So I dug out the exact cards we used from my wedding box and sent Ele a wish.

Something New
Something new symbolizes optimism for the future. I picked out this ring tray as something new, cute and practical.

Something Borrowed
Something borrowed represents borrowed happiness from another couple. This book has been the best resource for learning how to express love in my own relationship. It was actually loaned to me by a friend, so now I'm loaning it to Ele and she has borrowed happiness, from not one, but two couples.

Something Blue
And finally something blue symbolizes fidelity, purity, and love.

Congrats again to this sweet bride that deserves all the happiness.

    1. I always end up with some sort of theme whenever I do things like this, makes it so much more fun a little bit of a challenge to stick to your theme right?

  2. You are the sweetest! I love the ring dish where did you get it?

I can't say I personally have experience with a long distance relationship, but what I can say is you and Ele are both wonder woman for supporting your SO's from a distance. We all know love isn't just physical closeness but also how far it reaches.

  4. I can tell you enjoyed putting this together and I definitely loved it just as much! Xoxo LDR are not easy but offers so much in return. I admire you and Tom so much so this means a lot, especially with how you guys find ways to reconnect and strengthen your relationship through travel and creating experiences.

    1. I think it's nice for anyone in an LDR to see other couples doing it too and to support each other. Our relationships seem to offer a unique set of hurtles that it's hard for regular couples to understand
