By our third day in Havana, we were starting to get such a great feel for the culture and people and way of life in Cuba. I was loving every minute of it and was ready for another full day in the city.
Per usual, I was falling more in more in love with Havana on our morning walk.
it may not be the most extravagant city, but it's beautiful in its own right
Each day, we picked spots off a master list I had made and today we chose to have breakfast at Café Arcángel.
We made a good pick. They served the best coffee, fresh squeezed mango juice, and a plate of fruit with our $4 breakfast.
First item on the agenda for the day was to visit the newly opened capitol building.
They have been restoring the capitol building for 3 years, and while it's not finished yet, it has finally opened to visitors.
gorgeous interior and a beautiful courtyard
The capitol building was stunning and so worth seeing. But most places in Cuba don't have air conditioning, government buildings included. As you can see, we are totally melting from our time inside of the stuffy capitol building.
It was actually cooler outside.
We popped across the street to the air-conditioned Saratoga Hotel for a nice seafood lunch.
But even that wasn't enough to cool us down. So we took a page from the locals and decided to have a mid afternoon siesta. This is soooo unlike me. We're normally up and about from 7AM-? when we travel, but the heat was definitely getting to us. I took a cold shower (hence the wardrobe change midway through this post) and we both took a good 3-4 hour nap at our air-conditioned AirBnB.
After our nap, it had cooled down so much more and we had gotten a second wind to do more exploring. We headed down to the Malecón to explore Havana's Coast and it's surrounding plazas.
love these classic cars and hand made tiles on every building We stopped into the Museum of Rum to grab drinks and buy a few bottles to take home. Then we grabbed a quick dinner at 5 Equines Trattoria-one of our favorite places in Havana.
Since it was our last night in Cuba, we stayed out late-wondering the streets as the sun set.
And we of course had to take in one last night of the great salsa music and drinks at a rooftop bar.
Te amo Havana
