As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we are headed out to spend the holidays in Africa and Europe. I'm sure Africa conjured up all kinds of visions of safaris, but Africa is a unique continent with so much diversity from place to place.
Our trip is taking us through Morocco, so no wild lions and giraffes are in our immediate future. But instead, we have the opportunity to visit the uniqueness that is Morocco. Somehow it doesn't seem like it belongs in Africa or Europe or anywhere at all. And I cannot wait. I love this tradition of an annual Christmas trip that started right when we got married. It was honestly a sign of how busy are lives were then, but is something I still cherish. When Tom and I first got married, we were both in grad school...in different states. We said our I dos on a Saturday and were back at our respective schools on Monday. Since we had an autumn wedding, the next reliable free time where we both had a break was Christmas. So we took our honeymoon over the holidays. We also decided not to buy each other Christmas gifts in order to have more money to put towards adventures while honeymooning. I loved the idea so much that we did it again the next year and then the next and the next. And it has become our holiday tradition to take a special trip together around the holidays. It doesn't always have to be a big trip or anything crazy-though it often is because I'm just extra like that. In years past, we did our holiday trip over Thanksgiving-going to Iceland last year and Mexico the year before that. But this year, we are taking our time with it and taking advantage of the fact that the holidays are guaranteed free time. So, we celebrated Christmas with our families early, and are now able to fully indulge in this fun tradition.
