Christmas Confessions

Blogmas Day 16
I'm linking up with Nadine today for Confessions. I've never participated in this link-up before and I thought now could be a good time to share a few of my holiday secrets.
-I'm afraid of the Elf on the Shelf! I'm not a doll person. Quite frankly, they have always freaked me out, especially the porcelain ones that always show up in horror movies. And the Elf looks eerily happy to me…with those overly accentuated cheeks and those huge eyes and that tiny tiny little body. He scares the crap out of me. And then the whole point of the thing is to hide it around the house to spy on you for Santa. The whole concept is just a bit creepy. I would have been terrified of that thing if it was around when I was a kid. Heck, I'm terrified of it now.

-I've never taken by Christmas decorations down sooner than March. I once had a friend whose grandmother kept her Christmas decor up year round because it made her happy. I thought this was the best thing ever. I'm not totally oblivious and I take down any outdoor decor, but if you drop by my place between October and June, there is a fairly good chance there is Christmas decor up. We have a real tree this year and I keep the lights on non-stop, so I have a feeling it won't make it through the spring. I might cry when it dies.

-I buy myself Christmas presents. Husband says that this isn't normal, but I've been doing it since I was 14. Sometimes I do get myself something big during the Black Friday sales, but mostly it's small things. Like picking up little rewards here and there for myself while I'm out doing all my shopping. Because let's be real, it gets stressful and we could all use a few treats for ourself. If you drop by tomorrow, you can see exactly what I bought myself for Christmas.

  1. I buy my own presents as well. My husband always asks what I want, but since I know he's a procrastinator and will pay for it when it's full price, I just go ahead and buy it while it's on sale. I'm actually helping him ;)

  2. Yea I don't see most guys taking advantage of the early holiday sales so this totally makes sense. My husband and I don't even exchange gifts. We normally go on a trip or a really fancy date.

  3. I love that your friend's grandma kept her Christmas decor up year round. So when you buy yourself presents do you just call them presents or do you actually hide them (or wrap them) until Christmas? I've never heard of someone doing the latter but just getting yourself a thing or two isn't weird I don't think!

    1. I actually love wrapping gifts so yes I have wrapped them before, but I normally don't. I just start using them right away. I refer to them as Christmas gifts bc I have separate budget for it. I'm sharing a whole post on it tomorrow so hopefully that explains it better, but it will probably just make me sound crazy like Tom says

  4. Dude, seriously....the Elf scares the crap out of me!!! Why does he have to look so freaky? No thanks!! And I love Christmas decor. My grandmother said that it was good luck to keep out one Christmas thing all year, so I do that. I have to take my tree down the first week of January though. My little dog drives me crazy with it and I am glad to not have to worry about it anymore. It goes up at the beginning of November...so I had enough time to enjoy. I always buy presents for myself. It is totally normal!

Thanks so much for linking up today!!!!

    1. We have a small dog too and have been very surprised by his reaction to our tree. He gets randomly scared of intimate objects that we bring into the house so we expected a huge reaction to our 7 foot tree! Nothing…it's like it is not even there

    1. Yep the best part of the holidays is the Christmas spirit! Too bad people can't carry that throughout the year and be nice year round.

  7. I applaud the fact that you buy your own presents! Yes to that! Also, I am with you on the Elf. I am also creeped out by the idea of telling your kids a doll is "watching them." I think not.
