hiking to a secluded beach

The best kind of hike is a birthday hike! I didn't think we would be doing any hiking this year since we spent my birthday in Martha's Vineyard, but I was surprised to learn that there are a lot of great options there. So after a morning bike ride to a lighthouse, we headed off to spend our afternoon on a quick 3 mile hike to a secluded beach. Of course we got a little lost along the way, so those 3 miles quickly turned into 5!

This was seriously, the most scenic hike through the sand with the beach coming into view.

You know you're in New England when you find lobster traps on the beach.

We really did have this beach all to ourselves. You can't drive to it so the only way to gain access is by boat or by foot. And since we were visiting during the off-season, we were the only hikers.

This really was the most fantastic day...a bike ride to a lighthouse followed by this hike to a secluded beach. We were so engrossed in conversation and just enjoying each other's company the whole hike that we stopped paying attention and managed to get ourselves a little lost.
