Blogmas Day 21

Today is officially the winter solstice and that's a fact that I'm not so happy about. While winter does lend itself to the opportunity to wear beautiful coats, drink hot chocolate, and cuddle by the fire; the bitter cold reeks havoc on my sensitive skin. Itchy dry skin and chapped lips are not my fav and I'm assuming that you all feel the same so I thought that it would be a good time to talk about winter skin care. Here are a few of my favorite items to fight off the cold weather. 

Lovely Lashes: They're (mostly) Real!

As much of an advocate as I am of loving yourself and all your faults, realistically every girl has something they wouldn't mind changing about themselves. For me, it's my eyelashes. I seriously have the shortest skimpiest eyelashes in existence. Ok maybe, I'm being overdramatic, but even hubby's lashes are longer than mine. Because I don't have the loveliest of lashes, I  want them more than anything, but I guess that's how it goes. While I can't miraculously change the lashes I have, I can work with what I've got. 

Switching to Mac

My husband and I have a running joke with the punch line being "you struggle", meaning that things that should be relatively simple or effortless are often difficult for me. And my sensitive skin is no different. At the slightest sign of stress I break out in hives and I doubt that you know anyone who has been diagnosed with sun poisoning more than me. Seriously, all this melanin does absolutely nothing to protect me from the sun! 

When it comes to the make-up department, my sensitive skin really inhibits me. This is especially true with drug store brands as many of them have caused me severe breakouts. Even when I do find something that works for my sensitive skin, I often have trouble finding the right shade for my skin tone. As an African American I feel that many make-up companies don't carry a large variety of shades in darker ranges. Regardless, I was determined to find a foundation that would work well for me and in the past year I have tried everything from Bare Minerals to Lancome. The only thing that I really discovered during all of this is that I prefer liquid foundation to powder. Otherwise, I hadn't made any real progress. That's when I decided to head into a Mac Store. 

10 Under $10

So it occurred to me that the last time I did a beauty post/haul, I mainly discussed higher end products. That is not to say that I don't use less expensive or drug store beauty brands. So here are 10 beauty products that I am currently loving and the best part...they are all under $10.

Not a Beauty Guru

I am a terrible blogger because I have been hinting at doing a beauty haul for a while now, but never actually got around to doing it...my reason being that every time I sat down to do the haul I realized that there was something I needed and wanted to wait so that I could include it. I may go months at a time without purchasing anything beauty related and then I find myself picking up multiple items in a short time span. The items I'm going to show/review are things that I purchased over the past few months and even then there is still a lot. So you have been warned..this is a lengthy post.
