Boy am I thankful to be saying that. It felt like I was trying to climb Everest all week so I'm always happy to take a few moments to sit down and reflect on the positives. Here are my five for this week, what are yours?
It's been a few weeks since I updated with a Friday Favorite, but its been that crazy around here. From our winter trip through Iceland to finishing up this semester of dental school to doing all the holiday prep, its been hard to have a moment to catch my breath.
This transition from August to September has already been a bit of a crazy rollercoaster ride (thanks to favorite #5), but I've been sprinkling in lots of fun adventures and still getting a good bit of work done too. Can't wait to see what the rest of the month brings, in the meantime, I'm sharing a few favoritesbelow.
It's been too long since I shared a Friday Five so here goes!
one…a new area rug. There are hardwood floors throughout the apartment so we have area rugs to make things cozy. The rug in front of the coat closet had taken it's last breath. The poor thing was a resting ground for boots covered in salt and snow. It's where we laid our skis out to dry and PJ used it as a scratching post for his back. We replaced it with this colorful beauty.
The rug is actually a two for one because I'm thrilled about the $$ we saved on it. We had planned on spending $50 for a very basic 4X6 rug, but I found this on clearance for only $30. Definitely didn't expect to find something this large that we would love this much. Plus, I'm always happy to save money. I know what you're thinking…it's just 20 bucks! But I always think of money in terms of travel and $20 buys a museum ticket or ferry rides to my favorite place on Earth.
two...birthday planning! Tom's birthday is on Monday. He is pretty nonchalant about it. Meanwhile, I'm bursting with excitement. Tom reads my blog avidly so I can't share any details yet or I'll ruin the surprise. But let's just say that I'm especially excited to give him his gifts this year.
three…beer bottle caps. This one needs an explanation. Whenever Husband tries a new craft beer, he saves the bottle cap. It's a pretty cool idea, except for the fact that there are beer bottle caps everywhere. I find them in his pockets when I'm doing laundry. There are little clusters of them on his desk, in the kitchen drawers, and on the bookcases. It was like being in a frat house.
I found this glass container to store them all. Tom thinks it looks like a beer bottle so he loves it. And I love it because, all 208 of his beer bottle caps have a single place to call home, with plenty of space for more.
four…Bark Box. When I shared what we gave for Christmas, I totally spaced and forgot to include the fur babies in our life. With the holiday deals, we grabbed up a subscription to BarkBox for PJ. If you don't know, it's a monthly theme box sent with gourmet treats and toys for your pup. We are a little bit obsessed with this month's Chinese New Year theme.
The fortune on this cookie squeaker toy reads "I see more BarkBoxes in your future". too cute
five…rainy runs I hate running on a treadmill, but the back to back snow storms and below freezing temps have made running outside miserable. This week, snow was replaced with a light rain. When my drizzle turned into a downpour, I didn't even mind that I had to cut my run short because {I was getting soaked} anything is better than running in the snow.
Just thought I'd pop in and share my highlights from this week!
First is this inspirational quote! It's literally been getting me through all those moments this week where I've just wanted to stay in bed, hide from the world, and not do anything. When I don't want to go to class or go to my 5AM workout...I've been reminding myself of this. Because no matter how I feel in the moment, I'll be thankful for showing up in the end
With the end of my last full week of school before Thanksgiving break finally here, I thought that this would be a great time to reflect on all the good in my life right now and do a Friday Five so here goes...
I can't tell you how happy I am to see this week come to an end, it's kind of been pretty terrible for me. On Monday, I had to leave school early and head to the emergency room. I was in such excruciating pain that I couldn't walk or stand. I was poked and prodded all day before they made a diagnosis. Thankfully, it wasn't an appendicitis like they originally thought, but rather a ruptured ovarian cyst (sorry TMI?). I spent the next several days being miserable in bed. But even during a week like this, there are always good things to be found and to be grateful for. So here are my Friday Five.
1. A Loving Support System I'm so thankful to have such a loving husband, who sent me flowers and a family that constantly checked on me. And to my faculty and close friends at school, thank you for your help and well wishes.
Hello All! Sorry for my lack of posts as of late, but this week I was finishing some things up. I am now officially finished with the first year of dental school. And now that, that is over I have so much to share. But for today here are just a few little snippets of some of my highlights from this week. So in no particular order....
1. The Golden State: We leave this weekend for an entire week in beautiful California. I have been looking forward to this trip for months, I just can't believe that it's finally here. We are taking complete advantage of my week off from school to take a second honeymoon and celebrate our first year of marriage. Our actual anniversary isn't until the end of September, but with my schedule the way it is, I don't know that we will be able to spend a whole lot of time together then. Thus, we are celebrating early.
Hoorah! I've reached yet another Friday, meaning one less 60hour week of this summer schedule. So I thought I would share a few things that I'm especially thankful for and happy about right now. 1. Iphone Upgrade! I finally upgraded to an iPhone 5S! Yes, I know that there are rumors that the iPhone 6 is coming out within the next few months, but who actually knows when that will be. Plus, I really don't care about having the newest model phone. I just need something that works for me. And unfortunately, my 4S wasn't cutting it anymore. The battery was no longer holding a charge and I basically had to keep in plugged in at all times. When I checked with my phone carrier, I had two options. Option A was to get a free refurbished iPhone 4S. Uh, no thank you! In my experience, refurbished stuff is bound to break again. Option B, was to get a new iPhone 5S. Thanks to an awaiting upgrade and summer sales, it only cost me $100. I'm ok with that, especially because I'm loving the sleeker thinner design of the iPhone 5.
