As I definitely learned in 2015, you can make all the plans your little heart desires but still have very little control over how things will go. Even still…more than anything I feel an urge to set some resolutions for myself...guide lines for how I want my year to go. I realize that my path may change throughout the course of this year and some things may become less relevant. But for now, I know what I want. I have been thinking on these for a while now. So here goes 2016...
>>organize and back-up my photos: I am the worst ever. Husband and I go on these amazing adventures where we take high quality photos with our DSLR. Then we come home and take the time to edit them in photoshop. While many go up on our walls or get shared here, I haven't been backing up my photos. In the past, I never felt a need to. But in the past year, we experienced some life changing adventures and I would be devastated if I lost those.
>>Vote: With 2016 being a presidential election year, I hope that this is on everyone's to do list
>>Return to regular devotionals
>>Establish a night time routine…I have insomnia so the fact that I don't have an established routine is unacceptable. Winding down and getting to sleep will be a lot simpler for me if I get this done.
>>Brush up on my Spanish…this is a hint of things to come
>>Get moving 3x a week: I know that this one is a cliche but I think this is doable for me. I made a similar resolution for 2015 and I lost 20.2 pounds last year. While I wouldn't mind trimming a few more pounds off my waistline, my goals for getting moving are much more motivated on living a healthy lifestyle.
>>Step away….from my phone. This is a big pet peeve of mine with others, but sometimes I'm guilty of this too. I want to put my phone down and focus on being present.
>>Never give up a chance to try something new
>>Adventure often
>>Be more honest: It's not that I'm going around lying to people non-stop. More so that I'm keeping a lot of things to myself. This year I want to make an effort to be more outward with what I'm thinking. It may be uncomfortable, but I'm tired of keeping things inside simply because I'm afraid.

Love these! People on their phones drive me crazy as well, but (like you) I'm guilty of it sometimes as well. Such an adorable champagne bottle, by the way! Happy New Year :)

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts in this post! I'm thinking about my new years resolutions too, and getting more movement and exercise, along with simple things like drinking more water is definitely a priority!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!

These are such good ones! I definitely want to put down the phone more this year!
ReplyDeleteI have been using my phone less and less lately and I want to use it even less. Michael and I have decided we're going to adventure more this year too. We've discovered so many great state parks around so we're going to be very Oregon and start hiking.
ReplyDeleteWith where you guys live, I'm sure there are tons of weekend and day trips worth exploring. So fun that you guys are committing to adventuring more
DeleteBacking up photos is a good one! I haven't done that in a long time...that's a great idea.
ReplyDeleteAwesome goals! I need to back up my photos too. And I want to get better about printing them!
ReplyDeleteI started putting down/turning off all electronics an hour before bed and reading during that time, and it made such a difference in my sleep patterns. I'm guilty of not backing up photos too- I need to work on that! Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteI'm so bad about turning everything off. They say you need a full hour to properly unwind before bed. If I read though, I totally get hooked on my book and end up staying up all night to finish it. oops!
DeleteThose are some great goals. I love the last one especially, I struggle with that as well. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI think it's human instinct to secretive to protect yourself so this one is very hard for me to go against
DeleteI am so, so with you on the nighttime routine. I take my graduate classes in the evening and often times don't get home until 11:30 pm which sucks when I have to get up in the morning to go to work and do it all over again. It's sometimes difficult to establish a routine on those nights that feels relaxing without being rushed (sometimes I'm so concerned with how much sleep I'll get that night I'm in rush to simply go to bed) so figuring out a way to construct one would be great.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your goal about being honest. I could use a little of that in my life while also trying to be a little more concise in general when I speak to people. I tend to blabber ;)
& of course, love a goal about adventuring. I hope you get to do a lot of it this year!
