June Budget: Minimalism

After my "no buy" month in May, I kind of expected that I would go crazy with this month's budget, especially since June is my birthday. Somehow I managed to keep things under control. I guess it's because I've been entirely too busy to have time for the fun and frivolity associated with shopping. I was hesitant about lowering my clothing budget this year, but it seems that I've been doing well with the spending decrease, while still purchasing good quality clothes. Even though, I may not have bought very much this month, I certainly wasn't deprived either. I actually added a ton of pieces to my closet including a few new handbags and twirl worthy dresses, thanks to birthday goodies.

Love Wins

Earlier this month, Tom and I celebrated Loving Day, which commemorates the Supreme Court decision to negate all laws against inter-racial marriage. I couldn't help but feel guilty about celebrating my marriage, knowing that not everyone is this country held this inalienable right. Now, it seems that June will forever and always be a month of marriage equality for all. Regardless of anyone's opinions or beliefs on the matter, everyone deserves the right to love. With all the pain and suffering to contend with in this life, why should anyone ever be denied love?

On Wednesdays...We Wear Pink!

Over the Hump!
I'm thrilled that this week is almost over because I [technically] have next week off from school so I've decided to celebrate with a bit of pink. I love Wednesdays because it's typically the only day of the week that I have the opportunity to actually get dressed. I'm in lab or with patients the rest of the week, during which time I'm required to wear scrubs. And there's kind of no point in changing out of my pjs on the weekends because I pretty much sit in the house studying. Let's just say that in the future, I definitely intend to wear real clothes and a white coat to work. But for now, anytime that I have the opportunity to get dressed, there seems to be a whole lot of color involved. Pink is a better color than most, but even I have to admit that I may have gone a little overboard this time.
But what the heck right? Because on Wednesdays...We Wear Pink!

TWIRL

When I was a little girl I hated wearing dresses. I hadn't quite mastered the art of sitting with my legs crossed, so dresses were accompanied by itchy tights that always seemed to rip. Or I would have to wear shorts underneath in which case what was the point. Why not just wear the shorts? But there was always one thing about dresses that I couldn't deny made them worth the hassle.....the fact that you get to twirl. I don't hate dresses anymore, but my favorite part of about them is still the same.

A Skinny Pineapple

After purchasing this pineapple skirt last summer, I pretty much fell in love with it. The fabric, the construction, the length...all perfect. And the print is adorable, but as of a couple of months ago it no longer fit. It was way too snug. Seriously I couldn't even move once I managed to get the thing zipped up. I started to add it to the sale pile, but I loved it too much to part ways so soon and decided to hold onto it for a little longer...you know just in case. Fast forward a few months and I've now lost 12 pounds (and counting). Imagine my surprise when I tried on this skirt a couple of weeks ago and it still didn't fit. Only this time it was too big! So it's been altered now to fit the new and improved me and this whole situation has got me feeling a little like a skinny pineapple.

26th Birthday!

There's nothing like a birthday to make you feel special. I'm kind of in love with the concept of birthdays and I normally celebrate mine all month long, but with everything going on right now, I had every intention of making 26 a low key birthday. I failed miserably, but I couldn't be happier about it! This year's birthday celebrations involved lots of sweets and a whole lot of pink. It was kind of perfect and I really don't want it to end. Maybe I can convince Husband to celebrate half birthdays...

Loving Day

On June 12, 1967 the United States Supreme Court overturned the remaining laws in more than a dozen states that prevented interracial marriage. After Mildred and Richard Loving, a black woman and white man were arrested for entering an an interracial marriage, they fought a tireless battle to make interracial marriage legal for us all. For many, today was just another Friday, but for Tom and I, today marked an important date. I'm always grateful for my husband and I couldn't imagine my life without him, but days like today definitely put everything into prospective and give us another opportunity to celebrate our marriage.

Happy Loving Day

Travel Budget: Affording Canada

Who doesn't love to travel?
Days spent laying on white sandy beaches, climbing mountains, and seeing the world. But realistically, journeying to paradise comes with a price tag. I follow quite a few travel blogs that are filled with idealic photos of far away places, but I rarely see people talking about the expenses associated with their travels. I personally love reading and learning from other peoples travel budgets so as my recaps of our Canada trip are coming to a close, I am sharing our budget. Talking about money may be a bit uncomfortable, but I think that it's important to show that big travels don't always mean spending big bucks!
