halloween things

I was just saying to Tom that this is our last Halloween of our twenties. It feels like we have to do this year big while we are still in our youth.

a change of plans

I've been a little bit absent on the blog this past week because we have been having some unexpected changes around here. Most notably being that my in-laws are no longer visiting us this weekend because my MIL is in the hospital, so  we are now going to them instead.
Some other changes that have been happening have been minute and had no effect, but others have had me rescheduling things that were supposed to happen in October and pushing them back as far as December. So this week has been a crazy one to say the least, but hopefully things will balance out again soon.

an autumn weekend doing all the things

Hello Monday!
I can't believe it, but I'm actually glad to have the week started, mostly because my week is so structured. Meanwhile this past weekend was a hectic one doing all the things to get our new place in shape.
We made 3 separate trips to Home Depot. We also went to Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Hobby Lobby, and Michael's. We got our storage unit cleaned out and organized, re-planted our wedding succulents, shampooed the rugs & sofa, put up new storage shelving in our closet, organized our place, and cleaned the apartment from top to bottom. It was kind of a lot and exhausting and we are still not quite done with our place yet. Even with so many errands and chores, there was some fun mixed into the weekend. We got pup to the dog park, managed to get into a little hocus pocus, enjoyed coffee breaks on our rooftop, went out to eat a few times, and did a little shopping at Anthropologie during their 25% off weekend where I fell in love and went home with this adorableness. Here's a few snaps of our weekend.

but first, hocus pocus

We are planning for a productive weekend over here---hoping to finish up all the little projects on our never ending to-do list around our place. Since my in-laws will be in town next week, we are on a deadline to finally get our apartment settled. So we've got a weekend planned to do all the things. But first, hocus pocus!
In mind, no matter how busy things get, there is always time for a little hocus pocus. There is always time for a little fun right?

friday favorites 10.19.18

Happy Friday Y'all! This week felt like a long one and I'm not even sure why. Nothing major happened, just really busy. And I'm on emergency patient call today so I have a feeling that it's going to be a long Friday. But I'm definitely looking forward to this weekend and feeling pretty ambitious about doing all the things. But first, here are some highlights from the week.

a lost American's guide to Havana

Never did I ever imagine that I would find myself in Cuba. When I was a child, Americans weren't allowed to go there. So in my mind, it was essentially a made up place that didn't exist.
But just a few years ago, the Obama administration facilitated opening the gates of Cuba to Americans for the first time in more than 50 years. Unfortunately, since then, the Trump administration has begun to make it more difficult to visit. So we decided that if we ever would want to visit Cuba, now is the time because who knows if visiting Cuba will always remain a possibility to Americans. And since we did so much research going into this trip, I thought I would share what we learned about visiting Havana Cuba.

Virginia is for Lovers ❤️

It's true what they say, "Virginia is for Lovers". At least, it's true for us. Because for the first time in our 5 year marriage, Tom and I have to place to call home TOGETHER.

what to wear in Cuba

When your outfit matches the scenery, you have to pose for a photo right? And when you're in Havana---a city full of the most colorful backdrops-there's a lot of posing going on.

friday favorites 10.12.18

Oh October! You're nearly halfway over and I'm left feeling dumbfounded and confused about how this happened. My favorite month is blurring right by, but thankfully, I had some time this past week to slow things down a bit and just pause.

a peek at our place

Since signing the lease for our apartment together back in July, a lot has happened. I left the country twice ✌🏾, sat for a portion of my licensing exam, and spent my summer quite literally drowning in work. So decorating wasn't exactly at the top of my to-do list.
Over the summer, I only spent weekends at our new place since I was still finishing up one last term at the dental school. Finally, right at the end of September, I was able to move here permanently with starting my rotations. Now that I'm here on a daily basis, we have been able to make some real headway so I thought I'd share a peek at our place while it's in progress. Here are some snaps all from my iPhone for now until this place is ready for a full blown apartment tour.

starting rotations

How can it be that it's actually here? I finally rode off into the sunset to start my dental rotations. In order to understand how phenomenal this is, I have to explain how they work.

my last month at the dental school

I returned to the dental school yesterday to deliver a few last cases and it felt like a different world. It's hard to believe that I've only been on my away rotations for a little over a week. It got me reminiscing about my crazy hectic productive busy last month at the dental school.
At a glance, I completed my graduation exam requirements on patients for root canals, emergency dentistry, dentures, assessing outcomes of care, and periodontal (gum) disease. It was a busy busy busy month. To top things off, I finally got to sell off all of my practice models because I only drill on real teeth these days. It was seriously the best feeling E-V-E-R to know that I am capable enough to leave the protection of the dental school and spend the next 7 months rotating through various clinics across the state to gain as much experience as possible with so many different patient populations. Graduation is so close, I can feel it.
