what's in a name? dead horse point state park

Wanderlust Wednesday-Week 23
On top of hiking through all five of Utah's national parks in a week {itinerary here}, we squeezed in a few extra stops along the way. That's just what we do! One of our favorites was…Dead Horse Point State Park. Nice name right? dead horse point state park southwest road trip Legend has it that a herd of wild mustangs was corralled here and then left without water, at which point they died of thirst with the Colorado River right in view. Then someone decided, hey let's take the worst thing that's ever happened here and the name the place after that. But regardless of it's name, it's a beautiful place to be.
This spot has been regularly compared to the Grand Canyon and I can understand why. Sheer sandstone cliffs sit perched 2000 feet above the Colorado River = best viewpoint for sunset. See for yourself.
I'm glad we made time for a stop here while visiting Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park in Moab Utah. From it's name, we couldn't have guessed that Dead Horse Point State Park would be so magnificent. And somehow we lucked out with having the whole place to ourselves.
Perfect for a romantic sunset.

  1. I hope you guys frame some of these photos from your vacation, especially the first one with the two of you. That's a nice one to have large and displayed in your house one day!

    1. Ele that's exactly what we plan to do. One day we will own a home together, and fill up a gallery with photos of our best life adventures together. Our children will see them and learn to live a life full of wander
