the greatest gift is...a smile

I had to share this cutest early christmas gift that I received from one of my patients. It’s the last time I will see her before the holidays so at the end of our appointment, she presented me with these chattering teeth and said that she wanted to give me a smile since I had restored hers. Too sweet, I almost cried. Ok, I did cry. And it got me thinking that I'm entering the best profession in the world because I get to spend my day giving people their best smiles.
A smile transcends any language barrier and is the same in every culture. Our smile impacts how we feel about ourselves and allows us to impact how others feel. If laugher is the best medicine, then your smile is contagious in the best kind of way. So anytime I get a weird eyebrow raise or get questioned when I tell someone that I’m going to school be a dentist, I will simply explain the power of a smile. While not everyone has the honor of being a dentist, you can still give the gift of a smile. So as you go throughout your day, spread a little extra holiday cheer and smile at everyone you meet.
