medical dental mission trip

Nothing fuels the heart or feeds the soul quite like helping others, which is why I couldn't be more excited to announce that I'm headed off on a medical dental mission trip to the Dominican Republic!
I have always wanted to participate in some type of global outreach. In fact, I was very close to going on a mission trip with church in college, but ultimately felt like I had no real skills to offer. Now, things are a bit different that I've spent years of my life developing my passion for dentistry that is so needed and valued. I have next week off from dental school for the July holiday as my summer break. So I'm using that time to participate in a dental mission project. As I mentioned back in November, I started volunteering with a free dental clinic during their Saturday sessions. During this time, I was fortunate enough to meet one of the American Dental Association's Humanitarians of the Year. He encouraged me to apply for the dental mission that he runs. Just being considered as an applicant was honor enough, but actually being accepted into the program was life-changing. And while I have a feeling that I will be working harder than I ever have, I will be doing it for the people who need it most. Everything from drilling & filling, to pulling teeth, to making dentures...I'm ready for it. It's going to be a busy week to say the least, but I feel fortunate that I get to combine two of my greatest passions...helping others through dentistry AND travel. My bag is packed and already to go and embark on this journey.
