what to wear in Cuba

When your outfit matches the scenery, you have to pose for a photo right? And when you're in Havana---a city full of the most colorful backdrops-there's a lot of posing going on.

Autumn Clothing Budget

Time for another clothing budget update since my last one was back in August...summer clothing budget. I've definitely picked up quite a few staples over the past few months. Also added a few more pieces of outdoor gear to my wardrobe with purchases for recent trips to Alaska and Iceland.

white jeans for every season

A couple of years ago, I finally bit the bullet and bought a pair of white jeans, these ones to be exact. And while this wouldn't be a big deal for some, I am not the kind of girl that should own white anything, but I guess that's what they invented bleach for. But the biggest issue for me is that I felt that white jeans were for summer only and that I would only get real use out of them a few months out of the year. Oh how wrong I was.
white jeans for every seasonWhen it comes to style blogging, I never want to be one of those people whose just show casing what's currently on trend. Instead, I like to buy and wear pieces that will work for my wardrobe long-term. According to my monthly clothing budgets, I paid $54 dollars for these white jeans (now on sale) two years ago and I think I've got my money's worth with wearing these year-round. With labor day having just passed, I was remembering the old adage of "no wearing white after labor day", but here's proof that you can wear white jeans all year long.

train of thought

My mind has been all over the place lately. It's gotten so bad that I can't focus on anything because I'm too busy thinking about what comes next.

a week of wear: vol 3

I've been doing a little more shopping lately and have been enjoying putting together bright fun outfits for this warmer weather that are still professional enough for grad school. Per usual, I live in university issued scrubs most days, but once a week I gain control over my wardrobe. So here's to a fun summer inspired week of wear...it only took me a month to wear all these outfits!

a week of wear: florida edition

I'm normally stuck in scrubs all day every day. While I kind of hate it, one thing it's taught me is that clothes are meant to have a function, not just be pretty. So with packing for our recent trip to Florida, I made sure to not only consider the cuteness factor, but also what would function best.
I literally packed based around what activities we were doing each day. And I was much happier with the outcome, so I thought it'd be fun to share a vacation edition of a week of wear

a week of wear: vol 2

It's been so long since I shared Volume 1, but I've recently had some major schedule changes that impact how I'm getting dressed each day. I'm now in clinic with patients 3 days a week and then I spend the 4th day doing lab work, which means I'm wearing scrubs 4/5 days of the week. That leaves me with one day of the week where we have the morning off, then an exam plus lecture in the afternoon. So this is my one day to wear real clothes.
But to be honest, I normally spend the morning studying and taking the time to get dressed (as opposed to tossing on scrubs) seems like time wasted. Thankfully, I have this little space to remind me that making an effort with self-care and taking time to put myself together every once in a while is NOT a waste. So here's a mix of new and old clothes that I've been pairing together for some recent outfits for dental school.

it's still winter

With what seemed to be an unusually mild winter, I may have gotten ahead of myself with jumping right into Spring. But this recent hike was a very big reminder that it's still winter. The days may be getting longer and the plants are getting a little greener, but March seems to have greeted us with a cold snap. And the temps are still requiring cold weather gear, as in ridiculously warm full-length coats ha! Cold or not, I can never resist a chance for a good hike, especially one that involves getting to witness the seasons transition. So while, yes it is still technically winter, Spring is sprouting through.

a week of wear: vol 1

It's funny that this little space initially started out as a style blog because I didn't share a single outfit of the day last month. And it's looking like this month will be the same. I assure you that I haven't been running around naked, but there are two big reasons why I haven't been sharing OOTD's lately.

one month ago today

It's funny how drastically things can change in a month's time, but also amazing how much they stay the same. I wore this exact outfit a month ago today here. In that time, we went from snowy mountains to seaside escapes, but the outfit stayed the same. I just swapped out the beanie for a pair of sunglasses and traded in the bean boots for sneakers. But at the core, nothing changed…it's all about perspective.

muted

This is the first time since the weather changed that it's felt like Spring. Normally, I would need all the bright colors and floral prints to transition into a Spring wardrobe, but I'm loving these muted tones together. Who knew that neutrals could speak so loudly? I'm attributing it to the details of the lace and the pleated peplum. They just go together.

LOVELY

How can you go wrong with dressing for the season? You can't! So when there are back to back snow storms in February, it's time to reach for my red wool coat. I spent 3 years searching for the perfect red coat and now that I've finally found mine, I'm wearing it every chance I get. I feel like this OOTD says that it's February and that's a lovely place to be.

Ironically, this is a complete 180 from what I wore Saturday. But both OOTDs scream Jasmine in different ways. Am I the only one who has dual personalities when it comes to their wardrobe?

A Winter PostCard

Normally I spend all winter long grumbling about the cold, but this year things are a bit different. I'm really enjoying this season. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I've found a way to get outside (though xc-skiing) instead of feeling like I'm stuck indoors. Maybe it's simply because I've upped my hot cocoa intake. Who knows!
I always dress to fit my mode OR my surroundings. With this Anthro PostCard Tee, I'm doing a bit of both. I'm loving how perfect this tee is with its snow-capped mountains and evergreen trees. That's my real life right now! The colors are vibrant, but still muted…just like winter.

White Jeans & Bean Boots

I finally bought myself a pair of Bean Boots, which are pretty much a requirement for all New Englanders. Especially, when it's only October and there have already been snow flurries!

Falling for Fringe!

I'm a terrible fashion blogger...mostly because I'm not one to follow trends. This fall alone--suede is back in, windowpane is the new plaid, and apparently those puffer jackets that add 5lbs are chic now. I can't keep up and in many cases I don't want too. I'm much more interested in wearing clothes that I love. But lately, I've become inadvertently trendy because I'm totally falling for fringe.

Review: Banana Republic Sloan Ankle Pants

I normally stay away from dress pants because I'm curvy and short (only 5'2'') so I end up looking like an Oompa Loompa
Thick Thighs + Fitted Pants = a bad combination
Basically, it's impossible for me to find dress pants, but I've been wanting to try the Sloan pant from Banana Republic for a while now and they finally released a design that I couldn't resist.

BowTie

Is anyone else having trouble dressing for this Autumn Weather?
I'm finding the mornings and evenings to be cool, but midday is beyond warm. Not quite sweater weather yet, but the changing leaves are calling for Fall clothes!

Fall at Fenway Park

To say that Husband and I aren't into sports is a bit of an understatement. But if you're fortunate enough to be in Boston, then you have to visit the Famous Fenway Park. While we still owe ourselves the full experience of an actual game here, one complete with peanuts and cracker jack {and beer}, for today we decided to take a Tour of Fenway Park.

APPLE Picking!

Have you ever been apple picking?
I have had never been. Husband and I made plans every Fall, but timing just never worked out. As one of our anniversary dates, we finally went apple picking this year. It was the perfect date and a great way to kick off the Fall season. Plus, it was made even better because we were able to take our pup along with us.

LBD + Plaid

It's been a little while since I've shared an OOTD, but I assure you that I have indeed been getting dressed. Typically, I prefer not to share repeat ensembles here and I've been living in the same summer pieces waiting for the transition into autumn. During our anniversary dinner this past weekend, I had cause to wear something a bit fancier since we caught a broadway show and dinner at a nice restaurant. I of course had no idea what to wear, which made it the perfect time to reach for this little black dress.
