day trip diaries: Portland Maine

Wanderlust Wednesday-Week 25
Recently, Tom and I took a day trip out to Portland Maine, which was made even better by the fact that we took the pup along. I can without a doubt say that Maine is my favorite New England state and I totally picture us settling down there permanently one day. Portland definitely solidified that.
No Breakfast + a 2 hr drive from Boston meant that we were starving by the time we arrived in Portland. So our first stop of the day was Holy Donut! Everyone knows Maine for it's lobster and blueberries, but it's also a big potato manufacturer. At Holy Donut, they use potatoes as their base. No flour or yeast goes in these bad boys, just potatoes. And these are the best donuts I've ever had. More moist and dense than regular donuts. Because they are so large, we planned to get one each. Instead, we ended up with an entire half dozen {oops!} because we wanted to try all of their unique flavors…pomegranate, lemon, and maple bacon.
After stuffing ourselves, we decided to walk off the calories around downtown and along the Eastern Promenade right along the waterfront.
These Portland homes right along the waterfront are #seriousgoals
We were so stuffed from our donuts that we skipped lunch. But then we had quite appetite by the time dinner rolled around. Of course we wanted seafood. And if you ever go to Portland Maine, there is ONE place where you have to go for a lobstah dinner...the Portland Lobster Co. It's outdoor deck has live music and sits right on the water. Plus, luckily for us it's dog friendly too.
A whole Lobster Dinner for only $16 made me a very happy girl. I've been eating lobster all summer long, but this was the best.
And after dinner, we went out to the shore to watch the sunset before heading home.
Perfect New England Day
Portland looks like classic sailboats dotting the coast. Portland smells like the scent fresh potato donuts wafting through the air. Portland feels like the most laid back city with a hipster vibe. Portland sounds like ocean waves constantly crashing against the shore. Portland taste like the best lobster dinner I've ever had.
Thank you Portland for making us fall even more in love with Maine! I didn't even know that was possible.
