Checking the List

Blogmas Day 8
Lately, I've been encountering quite a few people feeling stressed out and overwhelmed by the holiday season. Instead of being overjoyed about visting with family, there is stress about decorating the house perfectly. Instead of basking in the goodwill and charity of the season, there is pressure to buy everyone expensive gifts. Maybe we're all a little too hopped up on sugar from those Christmas cookies, but I think it's safe to say that we need to relax and cut ourselves a bit of slack.
Whether you're stressing about getting everything done in time or feeling financially burdened, take a step back and remember what this season is supposed to be about. The pressure and the stress, that needs to stop right now. And the only way to do that is to permanently cross some things off that to-do list. Because when it comes down to it, we are the ones putting pressure on ourselves. Just this past weekend, I had planned on making a festive holiday dinner. I was even going to make a new dessert from scratch. Then I realized that I was spending way to much time looking for recipes and stressing about finding exotic ingredients. At the end of the day, I ditched the plan entirely. We ordered a pizza for dinner and ate store bought cookies for dessert. Gasp! But, you know what, it was freaking delicious! More importantly, it freed up a lot of my time and took a bit of the pressure off. Will I ever get around to making that fancy dinner? maybe…maybe not. But I'm certainly not going to stress about it anymore. And I'm not going to let it take away from the important things.
Happy Holidays!

  1. Great post! We get caught up in everything and forget about the true meaning of the season.

  2. Yes I agree 1000% holidays are about fun! Not stress which I think so many people end up stressing about. We're aiming for a stress free holiday this year. So far so good!

    1. Us too. If anything becomes stressful to do then we will kick it off our list entirely.

  3. I never understood how people got so stressed out around the holidays? I love this time of year. The time spent with families, the fun movies on tv, the delicious snacks, the pretty lights, lazy nights by the fireplace with hot coco. I really try not to let myself stress over presents or where we need to be and just enjoy the time of year and the reason behind the season so to speak.

    1. Exactly! It's kind of been making me upset to hear people complain about Christmas. Especially, since most of the complaints I'm hearing could have easily been prevented with a little planning. I mean really, Christmas is the same time every year. Plan ahead and you won't have any problems. Or better yet, quit stressing and worrying about crap that doesn't matter. Let's all just enjoy it. Sorry for my total rant, I'm just happy to encounter someone that feels the same way.
