This transition from August to September has already been a bit of a crazy rollercoaster ride (thanks to favorite #5), but I've been sprinkling in lots of fun adventures and still getting a good bit of work done too. Can't wait to see what the rest of the month brings, in the meantime, I'm sharing a few favorites below.
1. a long weekend
Everyone loves a long weekend, but with being in a long distance marriage, having a long weekend is an extra special gift for us with more time to visit. Every minute. Every hour. Every day that we get a chance to see each other is a blessing. So for us, long weekends are more than just a chance to sleep in.
2. Kayaking Boston
Speaking of long weekends, we finally, finally, finally got to kayak the Charles River in Boston over Labor Day weekend. We have been hoping to do this for years, but timing and weather never worked out. It was definitely worth the wait with catching the best city views. And bonus points for squeezing our pup into our doubles kayak because everything is made better when this fur ball is involved.
3. Outfit of the Year
In honor of the old adage, "don't wear white after labor day", I shared how I style white jeans for every season with this favorite pair. I'm not much of a fashion blogger per se, but I love to showcase a good versatile piece and I think white jeans aren't an obvious staple for most people.
4. Rainy day Museum Visit
I know most people dread it, but I adore the rain. When it turned out to be a torrential downpour on Sunday over Labor Day weekend, it definitely cancelled some of our outdoor plans, but also gave us an opportunity to visit a new Boston museum. We picked the Harvard Museum of Natural History, which I adored. Plus, I got to have a personal little tour of the campus thanks to my smart husband having worked there.
5. Dental School
The big reason why this week has been such a tough pill to swallow is because I was waiting to find out the results of my skills assessment/practical for dentures. When it comes to taking practicals for dental school, we're on a pass/fail system. Unlike a traditional test, where you can get some questions wrong as long as the majority of correct, with a practical everything has to be right. So if there are 20 components and you get 19 correct, you still fail. And I failed my first attempt at this practical, which was particularly frustrating because I had no problems with fabricating dentures before I took a break from dental school. Now that I'm back, the course has a completely different layout and instructor and I struggled. But last night I got the best news with finding out that each grader passed me in every category so I'm good to go. And the timing couldn't be better because I literally just sent a patient to have all of their remaining teeth extracted. I'm thankful that I will get to make their dentures myself instead of having to pass on the task to someone else.
So, yep this first week of September has been an eventful one to say the least, filled with lots of stress (thank you dental school), but still trying to enjoy life in between. I think that's all we can do though, is make sure that we enjoy all the moments in between.
Happy Friday! We went kayaking on the Chicago river and it is still one of my favorite things to do. I would love to make a weekend visit to Boston and add this one to our list. You are rocking it in dental school, girl!! Beautifully Candid
ReplyDeleteCongrats on passing! I'm sure that's a huge weight off your shoulders!
