Christmas Tree Farm

Blogmas Day 3
We are so looking forward to our New England Christmas and taking complete advantage of it in every way. One of the benefits of living in such a cold environment is that there's no shortage of pine trees. This past weekend, we visited one of the many tree farms here and I cut down my very first Christmas tree {with Husband's help of course} Now the scent of its needles are filling up the apartment and it truly feels like Christmas!
We spent quite a bit of time hunting for our Christmas tree…weighing out the pros and cons of each tree, inspecting the needles, surveying the shape. You've never seen two people more serious about finding the perfect tree.
We finally settled on this one! Ironically, it wasn't the most perfect tree we found. its even got a bare patch in the middle, but for some reason we kept coming back to this one again and again. We had to make it ours!
I had every intention of letting Husband take the lead on this one. I mean really, he's a natural.
but Tom didn't let me get away that easily and I did my fair share of the work in cutting this tree down. Let me tell you, it was quite the workout,
T-I-M-B-E-R!
Love that we managed to capture the moment the tree finally gave way!
The tree farm worked out so that all tree sizes were the same price. We decided that we may as well make the best of this and get the biggest tree we could fit into our space. Actually this tree didn't end up fitting in our apartment very well. And how we made it work is a pretty funny story, but we will save that for a later date.
Anyway, we were so focused on getting a BIG tree that we weren't thinking about what happened after we cut the tree down…like how we had to carry it up a hill and then another 1/2 mile to get it wrapped.
between the cutting and the carrying, this was definitely an arm day

After our we secured our tree to the roof rack, we had time to explore a bit, which mostly involved watching reindeer frolic and filling the appetite we had worked up.
That night, we drove home with sore muscles, bellies full of cocoa + cookies, and hands made sticky by tree sap. This was the perfect holiday date.
And now we have more time to look forward to spending together...cannot wait to decorate our tree this weekend!

{Not so} Ugly Sweater: 3 Ways

Blogmas Day 22
Because there are still a few days left to wear those ugly Christmas sweaters, I thought mine deserved it's own feature. I picked this beauty up for a mere $13 last month. I expected it to be a gag sweater that I'd wear once or twice. What I didn't expect is that it would become something that I would totally fall in love with and be wearing non-stop. Here are just 3 of the many ways I've been wearing my {not so} ugly Christmas sweater this season.
Tis the Season
I wore this sweater for the first time here during Black Friday shopping. Loved having something to cheer me up and warm me up while fending off the holiday crowds.

At the Christmas Tree Farm
Can't think of a better place to wear a holiday sweater than a Christmas tree farm! We loved cutting down our own tree this year and thanks to this outfit, I was the most festive one there.

For a Holiday Date
Husband loves this sweater as much as I do and suggested that I wear it for a holiday date. What better way to end the 12 dates of Christmas than wearing a holiday sweater while enjoying Christmastime in the City!

Do you have a ugly Christmas sweater or a fun holiday piece you enjoy wearing?
I'd love to hear about it.

Friday Favorites at Christmastime

Blogmas Day 4
It's been a while since I've participated in Friday Favorites, but it is my absolute
favorite time of the year so pretty much everything that's happening right now is my favorite thing. Several of my current favorites are captured right in this photo below...

one: this gorgeous wreath that we picked up at the tree farm last weekend. It's totally picturesque and smells amazing. Sorry to the neighbors, but this is not going on the front door as originally planned. We're keeping this one inside for ourselves.
two: I'm obsessed with our Christmas cards this year, I think this is one of the best photos we've ever taken, which is great because it was such a simple everyday photo.
and three: We are mailing our cards out today! It took entirely too long to write, address, and label everything. Now, I just have a few finishing touches and then they're off. And it was worth all the time and effort to send a little holiday cheer to our loved ones.

another favorite…all the holiday wrappings.
I have a not so secret love for all things stationary…cards, scrapbooking, cute notes. I'm a little old lady at heart. Popped into one of my favorite stationary stores (yes I have a favorite stationary store) and found the most adorable place cards and holiday paper. I wanted 3 of everything, but somehow I escaped without buying anything...
ok I'm totally lying, I bought this, but it was pretty much a necessity
Fa-La-La-Llama

And one last favorite is our new tree skirt. It's rare to walk into a store and stumble upon exactly what you were envisioning. It's especially rare to find it on sale! Husband definitely turned his nose up at the words "faux fur", but he quickly changed his tune when he saw it in person. Though I think that PJ likes it more than the two of us combined.
It's just as white and fluffy as he is, but we're finally getting around to decorating our Christmas tree and wrapping presents tonight. This means that he will to have to find a new spot to nap and hoard his toys.

Holly Jolly Reindeer Folly

Blogmas Day 2
Festive Outfits are the best part of the holidays. Actually every part is the best part, but dressing up just happens to be one of my favorites. As this past weekend was spent outdoors at a Christmas Tree Farm {more details tomorrow} with reindeer, gingerbread houses, and lots of hot cocoa, it required a fun holiday look.
